Observatory
The Climate Change Observatory of Attica Region is a supporting dynamic tool for more effective implementation, evaluation and dissemination on Climate Change issues in Attica Region.
The main goal of the Observatory is to contribute to the implementation of Climate Change objectives at the Regional level (Regional Plan of Adaptation to Climate Change, RePACC, of Attica), at the national (National Strategy, Climate Law) and European level (European Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change), as well as at the international level (SDG 13: United Nations Sustainable Development Climate Action).
Objectives of the Observatory are to:
- Facilitate access to existing and future systems and networks for monitoring critical parameters on the evolution and impacts of climate change on various sectors of production, infrastructure, natural and urban environments.
- Contribute to the development of indicators for monitoring and assessing the progress achieved in relation to the expected results from the implementation of the actions, measures and interventions of the RePACC of Attica Region.
- Disseminate the information, increase awareness of the citizens and enhance their knowledge base on the effects of climate change in all sectors (health, infrastructure-transportation, water resources-flooding, built environment, biodiversity-forest ecosystems, coastal zones, agriculture, fisheries, energy).
- Integrate air pollution monitoring networks that have been developed in Attica Region, as one of its first and basic components, as well as the first results of the Attica’s RePACC produced by climate models regarding future forecasts for a series of climate parameters, at high spatial resolution.
For these purposes, amongst others:
- A Platform for data Management and Visualization for climate change in the Attica Region has been integrated, where future forecasts are presented for a series of parameters produced by appropriately selected climate models used in RePACC of Attica, as well as socio-economic data for the Region. Air pollution monitoring networks are integrated, too.
- A Citizen Observatory is created to disseminate information, enhance awareness and participation of citizens.
- A Knowledge Repository is being developed with a library of scientific Greek and international material, Management Plans and other relevant documentation and provisions of the current institutional framework. Environmental information on projects, programs or actions of Attica Region is provided in an organized manner, while climate change related pilot applications and researches in Attica Region are made available.
The Climate Change Observatory of Attica Region has been financed by the Regional Operational Program “Attica 2014-2020”.
The full version of the Climate Change Observatory is available in Hellenic.
